Moat Cottage, Private House

Moat Cottage seeks to define a more modern aesthetic for a traditional cottage form.  The existing building on the site is to be demolished and the new building will sit on the existing footprint.  Located in green belt in Nether Alderley the house occupies a large site which contains well maintained gardens and green space.  The project includes an ancillary building containing a swimming pool, gym and photographic studio.  This building pool is located relative to the house so not to block the views into the garden and the uninterrupted countryside further a field. The arrangement of house and pool create an informal garden enclosure which will form a transitional paved terrace area which will lead in to the less formal landscaping.  Primary extensive glazing at ground floor level will allow flexible interaction between house, pool and garden.

A more free flowing timber form houses a gym and this is clad in timber to link the building into its surroundings.

The houses main focus is its roof.  A simple structure of timber and steel allows the roof to float over the forms of the house.  The spaces in the house are planned to maximise the garden, with the elevation to public courtyard more solid in its elevation and forms.
