Cousins opened their first furniture store outside the Midlands in December 2005. Reid Architects provided a full architectural service in connection with the extensive refurbishment and re-modelling of an existing steel framed building to give 7,500 sqm/80,000 sq ft sales area.
Cousins also benefited from expert guidance on assembling of a consultant team, contractor selection and contract type. The focus of the new design is a newly constructed extension to the building to form a fully glazed entrance/reception area.
The concept for this part of the building was to create an internal street which served as vertical circulation and a flexible showcase of Cousins range of furniture.
The scope of works also included insertion of a full mezzanine, re-design and re-clad of the external skin and design of bespoke cellular cash desking.
