Reid Architects won a limited competition for a new extension and landscape scheme to the existing frontage of Centurion House, Deansgate.
The building is located at the edge of the Albert Square Conservation Area. The brief called for a new reception space, extension, and frontage to the building with the central section of the reception being readily identifiable from the street.
The proposals were to create a new glass box extension which would promote vibrancy and life to the front of the building.
The entrance was signified by a folded perforated metal canopy which would sit in front of the glass. When backlit at night the canopy effectively disappears to allow full visibility through the metal to the reception.
